CONCORD, N.C. — Northwest Cabarrus varsity volleyball earned a convincing home victory Wednesday night, sweeping the North Rowan Cavaliers in straight sets.

The Trojans controlled the match from the opening serve, taking the first two sets by comfortable margins and keeping North Rowan from establishing much rhythm.

The Cavaliers responded in the third set and found some momentum, keeping the score close for much of the frame. With North Rowan applying pressure late, Northwest Cabarrus called a timeout to regroup.

During the break, Northwest’s upperclassmen were noticeably vocal in the huddle, helping settle the team before returning to the court.

The Trojans responded with renewed composure, regained control of the match and closed out the third set, 25-17, to complete the clean sweep.

The victory also marked the first volleyball match covered by CLT Media News as the outlet expands its local high school sports coverage throughout the Mecklenburg and Cabarrus County region.
