Piper Martin recognized for ACHIEVING 1,000 Career Digs in Historic Night at Northwest Cabarrus

North Carolina’s current digs leader for the season reaches a major career milestone as school officials research whether the achievement also represents a Northwest Cabarrus record.

CONCORD, N.C. — Tuesday night became a memorable one for Northwest Cabarrus High School volleyball as senior libero Piper Martin eclipsed the 1,000-career-dig mark, adding another milestone to an already impressive high school career.

CLT Media News was on hand as Martin reached the milestone during Northwest Cabarrus’ home match against Carson High School.

Although the Trojans were unable to come away with the victory, the significance of the evening extended well beyond the final score.

During the match, Northwest Cabarrus faculty and supporters took time to recognize Martin for surpassing 1,000 career digs, celebrating the accomplishment in front of the home crowd.

Martin entered the night as one of the most productive defensive players in North Carolina and is currently recognized as the state’s leader in digs for varsity girls volleyball.

Reaching 1,000 career digs is significant on its own, but Martin’s accomplishment may ultimately carry even greater historical significance for the Northwest Cabarrus volleyball program.

CLT Media News has learned through a source familiar with the situation that Northwest Cabarrus Athletic Director is researching the school’s volleyball history to determine whether Martin’s career dig total establishes a new school record.

As of Tuesday night, CLT Media News has not independently confirmed that Martin owns the Northwest Cabarrus career record, and the school has not yet made an official announcement regarding the distinction.

That confirmation could add another chapter to what has already become a standout senior season.

Martin has established herself as the anchor of the Northwest Cabarrus defense, consistently producing high dig totals while serving as the Trojans’ libero. Her ability to keep points alive and turn opposing attacks into transition opportunities has made her one of the most productive defensive players in the state.

Tuesday night, however, was about more than another statistical performance.

It was about 1,000 digs, years of work and a milestone that could ultimately find its way into the Northwest Cabarrus record books.
